Book Review- Meet Cute by Various Authors

This is a Young Adult book that I purchased as an iBook on a whim. Let’s see if it was worth it!

About the Authors

This is a book of short stories so there are various authors in this book. The authors are Dhonielle Clayton, Emery Lord, Huntley Fitzpatrick, Ibi Zoboi, Jennifer Armentrout, Jocelyn Davies, Julie Murphy, Kass Morgan, Katharine McGee, Katie Cotugno, Meredith Russo, Nicola Yoon, Nina LaCour, and Sara Shepard.

Synopsis

Whether or not you believe in fate, or luck, or love at first sight, every romance has to start somewhere. MEET CUTE is an anthology of original short stories featuring tales of “how they first met” from some of today’s most popular YA authors.

This incredibly talented group of authors brings us a collection of stories that are at turns romantic and witty, epic and everyday, heartbreaking and real.

Review

This is pretty much my first book of short stories. And it was also one of the first iBooks I have purchased. I prefer physical books but when I saw this for $1.99, I figured I would check it out. Let’s just say that I am glad I did. I absolutely loved this book. I didn’t enjoy every story but I did like the majority of them.

My two favorites were Click by Katharine McGee and Hour Glass by Ibi Zoboi. Click was a story about an anxious girl, Alexa going to meet someone who she met on a dating app called Click. I don’t want to give too much away but based on the name of the book you can guess that a match was made. Hour Glass is about a young African-American girl who is about to graduate and hoping to get into the college of her dreams. She isn’t very confident since she is like super tall and her friend who is a small delicate flower; isn’t much help. Prom is coming up and Cherish had no intention of going until her friend Stacy makes the ultimate betrayal. Finding a dress that fits her body led her to her cute meet cute.

One of the stories that really stood out to me and that I can see being made into a modern fantasy was, The Way We Love Here by Dhonielle Clayton author of The Belles. This story was; different, but very enjoyable What I loved most about this book is that the stories stick with you. I remember each one and they are all so very unique.

The funny thing is, when I started reading this book I had no intention of finishing it. I just wanted to see what it was all about. In fact, I didn’t even know that it was short stories. I have the tendency to not read the synopsis until I am through the first chapter or so. Then I’m like, “hold up! What’s this book about?”

This is a Young Adult book, but it touches on all forms of sexuality, race and gender and I think it’s brilliant.

I give Meet Cute an overall 5 stars. I am usually stingy with my stars but I feel that this book deserves all the stars. Have you read this book? What were your thoughts on it?

Happy Reading
