Last week I asked on my book club Instagram; print, e-book or audio book? I wanted to know what everyone preferred. Some said all, but many people preferred the physical book. I am one of those many.
I love the look and feel of a physical book and I have become a bibliophile as of late. In fact, I think I have always been one.
Some of the books I have purchased were chosen simply because of the imagery. I love the way books look and that is why I collect them. I have been collecting books for years and just recently I’ve decided to sit down and actually read them. Right now I am reading two books. One, which is my first e-book, is called The Power. I will be reviewing it as soon as I finish. Here is a brief summary.
The Power is a 2016 science fiction novel by the British writer Naomi Alderman. Its central premise is women developing the ability to release electrical jolts from their fingers, thus leading them to become the dominant gender.
I am also reading Children of Blood and Bone and it is a gorgeous book.
For me e-books and audio books take away from the actual experience. I will likely get e-books from time to time, but I love me some books. My collection is getting out of hand, but I love being able to fill my library with various works of literature. Literature that is always there at my disposal.
In April, we will be starting another book for the book club. I will also be reading with another group of ladies in another book club I’m in. We’re reading Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward. For Black Women Read Books we are going for non-fiction and I think we will be reading Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. We’re still voting right now. Check out our website for more details and to join!
Also in April, I am starting a book challenge. I am already challenging myself to read 52 books this year. Part of the challenge will the 5 books to movie challenge. I will read 5 books that are now movies or TV series. Below are the five I will be reading and if you would like to join this challenge follow me on Instagram and follow hashtag #5b2mchallenge. Hope to see you there!
Next week I will be back with a book review, so stay tuned. I’m hoping to finish Children of Blood and Bone this week. I am also looking forward to our first book discussion this coming Saturday!
