31 Days of Tarot

I have decided to introduce myself to Tarot cards and boy has it been interesting. For the month of January, I started 31 Days of Tarot with the goal of learning the cards. Initially I did not plan to do actual readings until I had a grasp of what they mean and how they can relate to me.

Here are the steps I followed during my 31 Days of Tarot:

  • I used the Rider-Waite deck (it is one of the original decks and very basic.
  • Shuffle and pull a card daily
  • Upon pulling the card, I used biddytarot.com to look up the meaning of the card
  • I posted this in my Instagram stories to keep track of the cards I pulled for the month.
  • I would also keep the card out of the deck until I was halfway through the challenge. Then I added them all back, to start over. I did this to avoid pulling the same card multiple times.
  • At the end of the challenge I did a 3 card spread; past, present and future.

On January 1st before I got started I pulled my card for the year. I used the following formula to figure this out.

Birth Month- 2

Birth Day- 13

Year- 2018

2 + 13 + 2018= 2033

You want to then break this down as follows.

2 + 0 + 3 + 3= 8

You want the number to be under 22. If it isn’t you would break it down the same way.

My card for 2018 was Strength.

Strength Tarot Card
Upright: Strength, courage, patience, control, compassion Reversed: Weakness, self-doubt, lack of self-discipline

From what I’ve been told, you are supposed to ask a question and then draw a card to see what the card tells you in response to your questions. This was hard for me because trying to guess what the card mean is tough. You really have to look deep into the cards and think outside the box.  Using my intuition was hard as well when I didn’t understand what I was looking at or looking for. For a few days I would pull the card and try my hardest to decipher what the card means. I eventually went back to looking up the card to gain some insight. I would then be able to connect the meaning to my question. Maybe once I become more seasoned I will be able to do this.

My birthday is February 13th and I plan to do a birthday reading on myself. I may even get a reading done because I really wonder if that will enlighten me a bit. Open my eyes to the whole tarot card world. I actually found a free local tarot event for all levels that happens to be on my birthday! I plan to attend and see how things go.

Here are some of the card that I pulled during the month. I chose to share them here because these are the ones that related to me. These were the ones that made sense based on what is going on in my life and my future endeavors. I had a ritual I used before dealing with the cards. It usually consisted of smudging with sage or palo santo to clear any negative energy. Toward the end of I started incorporating crystals as well.

I have a few other tarot decks and even an oracle deck. I have started working with the Wild Unknown Deck and I really like it. I do feel that we need more diversity of tarot decks and that is what I like about this deck. They use animals instead of people. I have seen some pretty interesting decks whitch included beautiful images of people of color, but I haven’t snagged any yet. I decided I will wait until I am a little more seasoned.

The Wild Unknown Tarot, The Nahualli Animal Oracle and Osho Zen Tarot.

All in all I enjoyed my 31 Days of tarot and although I didn’t learn a bunch, I learned more than what I already knew.

As always, thank you for taking the time with Luna Peace!
